Beneath the Sacred Bodhi Tree, Guru Kul and Buddhist Chanting Tradition
Interactive Session on February 11th, 2008 at 2 pm.

In collaboration with Mahā Bodhi Society of India and
Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs
as part of promoting and encouraging the
Annual Pāḷi Tipiṭaka Chanting Ceremony held in Buddhagaya

To All the Venerable Monks, Upāsikas and Lay Devotees,

We would like to cordially invite you to attend a historical gathering of senior Pāḷi scholars and Senior Venerables from all over the Theravāda world who will be discussing how the Pāḷi tradition has been preserved in the ancient time. This will be an opportunity to understand in more depth how the Venerable Monks preserved their chanting style which also include discussion about their oral tradition

It will start form 2 pm and will give an opportunity for each Theravāda country to bring forth Senior Monks who could speak to this topic. Each venerable Monk will be given 30 minutes to give a talk along with and opportunity for the audience to ask questions. Finally, we will also have an opportunity to hear each country has developed their chanting style.

We would request those who are coming to attend the Chanting Ceremony to participate in this historical discussion. We also would request that Venerable Senior Monks please com forward to share their experience with others in better understanding how the Pāḷi Language has been preserved in their own tradition.
